Megalochori White Stairs The town of Megalochori, slightly to the south of the main town of Fira, is a wonderful antidote to the touristic intensity of the main drag in Oia. This set of stairs is on a side street on the way to the top of the town. During the summer heat, the whitewashed exterior of the buildings help to reflect the light and keep the interiors of the buildings cool. The omnipresent whitewashing makes this town, like many others in the Cycladic islands, fantastically, impossibly luminous during the mid-day sun.  Copyright 2006, J. S.
