Gate with Kameni In the center of the caldera are two islets forming from the volcano, Nea Kameni and Palea Kameni. They are built out of the lava flows that emenate periodically from the magma chamber below. This view is taken from the caldera cliff in Fira, and you can see the larger of the two islets in the middle of the image. The smaller, older Palea Kameni is mostly hidden by the larger Nea Kameni, with a sliver peeking out near the center of the image.
