Across the outer edge of Santorini the beaches are rimmed with lilies growing in the arid sand. These plants are a protected species, and produce a vibrant white flower. The lilies in the wall paintings of Akrotiri are thought to be the same plants. The lilies in this photograph were found among a large group at the edge of the road near one of the beaches on the north western part of the island.
