Santorini from the Air Santorini has a broad caldera with two small volcano islands that the series of towns clumped toward the edge of the caldera cliff are situated to overlook. Fira and Firostefani appear in the middle of this photo; the small local peak on the mainland almost in the exact center of the frame is where the Nomikos Conference Centre is located (just visible on full resolution versions of this image, but not apparent in this downsampling). Imerovigli appears to the right of them, on the next local peak over. The shot was taken just after takeoff from a departing airplane.  Copyright 2011, J. S.
