Faros The word faros in Greek means lighthouse, and, as is commonly found on the islands, the area around the lighthouse on Santorini is called Faros. This photograph was taken from Faros, looking northward, showing the two Kameni islands in the middle (although since they sit so close together, they cannot be readily distinguished here), and the arc of Santorini behind, with the brilliant white trace of Firá in the middle, and of Oia to the left. The layer of white rock visible above the water in the middle ground is the ash layer from the Minoan eruption. Copyright 2013, J. S. Pezaris AREADNE | Email | Search | Archive |
