Santorini is famous for its viticulture and small vineyards cover the landscape. Unlike the classic vineyards in many other parts of the world where the grape vines are strung out on wire fences, Santorinian viticulture traditionally takes the vines and circles them into small mound-like baskets to conserve and concentrate the dew. As dew is a primary source of moisture for the grapes in the arid Cyclades, the vine baskets are found across the island, demarking the vineyards with dots, instead of lines.
